Code: 12954
A complete solid copper alloy bead dating to the middle Bronze Age (1300-1150). The surface is smooth and undecorated with a mid-green patina. Such beads can be difficult to date without a firm context as they were popular for centuries. However, a similar bead was recorded from the Middle Bronze Age c.1300 BC - 1150 BC (see LVPL-09555C). Other examples can be seen at SUSS-90C9EB, SUR-E1B1A7, and HAMP-D344C1.
During this period, beads like this would have been used as status symbols, worn and traded for the value of the material they contained (as a precursor to coinage). Some examples have been discovered made from solid gold, highlighting their monetary value. Today, this ancient bead has survived intact and with a nice green patina.
