This is an ancient Roman silver denarius, of Emperor Caracalla. This coin was struck in Rome in 213 A.D. It had traveled to Britain and was excavated near Colchester.

On the obverse: ANTONINVS PIVS AVG BRIT, a Laureate portrait of Caracalla facing right. On the Reverse: P M TR P XVI COS IIII P P, Libertas standing left, holding a pileus and scepter.
