This is an ancient Roman silver intaglio ring, dating to the 1st - 2nd century A.D. The ring is set with the original carnelian intaglio depicting a goat feeding from the shoots/branches of an old felled tree. The gemstone is tightly set in a rubbed over mount, although has an old chip to the loweredge but the design is still intact. A good ancient ring for the collector or museum display.
