Code: 11338
This is an ancient Roman gold finger ring, dating to the 4th - 5th century A.D. The ring is set with a flat cut garnet gemstone, the bezel is slightly squashed and the garnet chipped, but stable and secure. A similar ring set with a glass intaglio was found in Wistow in North Yorkshire (YORYM-B88CF2) and another from Shepway in Kent (KENT-577F75). This ring appears intact though it is a little distorted from its time in the ground and has a crack on the band that is stable and not through the hoop. An interesting ring from the late Roman - Saxon Migration period.
