Code: 11331
This a wonderful portrait miniature of a scholar, dating to the 17th century. It is hand-painted on velum in watercolors and laid onto card. The workmanship is very fine and intricately stippled with the point of a brush, similar to that of Thomas Flatman (but I am unable to locate a signature). The sitter is wearing a black cap usually indicative of a scholar, physician, or doctor and he is reminiscent of William Harvey, English Physician. It is a very nice and original portrait miniature from an old collection and worthy of further study.
