This is a wonderful Renaissance silver-gilt devotional pendant, dating to the 16th century AD. The pendant is set with two original and unrestored Verre églomisé panels depicting Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Peter holding two keys. Interestingly two domes appear beside Peter, presumably representing St. Peters Basilica in Rome? During this period the rebuilding of this monumental structure was underway and the Popes. Both panels are reverse-painted onto glass or rock crystal. It is mounted in the original silver gilt frame, a bit deformed through centuries of contemplation and wear. It is a svery nice example full of history and character!
