This is an ancient Scandinavian Viking finger ring, dating to the 9th - 10th century A.D. The ring formed from a copper-alloy rod, the bezel hammered flat to form an oval shape. Both terminals have been riveted closed to form a round finger ring. The bezel is deeply engraved for niello enamel, much has survived intact. A parallel has been recorded from near Stamford Bridge (YORYM-0248F2). The ring is an excellent example in very good condition.
