Scandinavian Viking Silver Boarback Finger Ring
This is an ancient Scandinavian Viking silver finger ring, dating to the 10th - 12th century A.D. The ring is formed from rods of silver braided together into an elaborate design, the terminals hammered and welded (to enable the ring to be adjustable). The bezel is formed as an elaborate 'boar-back' used as a decorative element on helmets and penannular brooches. The style of braiding is unusual, often found to be much 'tighter' but works well for a bezel. An interesting and very wearable ancient ring in good excavated condition.
