Code: 13030
This is a rather charming Scandinavian silver braided cuff bracelet, dating to the 9th-10th century AD. The bracelet is made from several rods of silver that have been braided and hammered together to form a pennanular ring. The size is quite small, so it is probably intended for a child's or a young lady's wrist. Such bracelets were carried over a lifetime and accumulated as the years progressed, forming larger bracelets as one grew older and married. This would have acted as a visible sign of wealth and status and was often chopped up into hack silver by Vikings as payment of conquest and trade.
