This is an interesting silver belt fitting, dating to the 10th - 12th century A.D. It is intact and retains two bronze fixing pins on the rear. The face is decorated with niello enamel, contrasting with the silver. This technique is found in Saxon and Scandinavian jewellery. The design is reminiscent of a face or two birds. A nice object in excavated condition.
