Code: 12436
This superb Renaissance silver pectoral crucifix pendant, dates to the mid-17th century. Such a crucifix was designed to be worn on a long chain around the neck (so that it rests on the chest), especially by bishops, abbots, and priests. It is a well-sculpted piece made by a skilled silversmith, hollow and engraved. The cross is designed to be constructed from a tree, with sawn branches and engraved detail on the bark. It is intact, though it displays some wear, indicative of a much-loved devotional jewel. Today, this pendant retains the suspension loop, so it can still be worn with care.
