This is a charming medieval finger ring, dating to the 13th - 14th century A.D. This example closely imitates the gold and sapphire rings of the period, worn by nobility and ecclesiastic community. It is decorated with a raised rectangular bezel, set with a vivid blue glass paste (imitation of a sapphire). The ring has additionally decorated shoulders, set with enamel or glass. It retains gold gilding to the surfaces, originally fully gilded. The ring has survived in good excavated condition, a slight kink to the lower shank, but intact and without cracks or repairs.
