This is a medieval gold finger ring, dating to the 13th - 14th century. This ring has a square-shaped bezel set with a cabochon blue glass gemstone. This type of ring was known as a 'Penny' ring, due to its modest size and obvious cost from the goldsmith. Such rings were simply made and sold at fairs and festivals, as such, they are prone to damage due to their delicate nature. It is in excavated condition with a wavy distorted hoop and bezel.
