Medieval Gold & Sapphire Finger Ring
This is an excellent example of a medieval gold finger ring, dating to the 13th century. It is set with the original sapphire gemstone, within a closed collet setting. The bezel tightly rubbed around the gem, keeping is still securely in position. Such rings with sapphires were popular from the 12th - 14th century, being superseded by the ruby. This example is comparable with SWYOR-5B9C01 found in Yorkshire. A nice and wearable medieval finger ring in excellent condition.
