Renaissance Gold Intaglio Ring Classical Rooster Gem
This is a nice Renaissance gold intaglio ring, dating to the 16th century. It is a lovely example, set with an ancient Roman garnet intaglio of a Rooster. The gem is mounted into a tall quatrefoil bezel, decorated with crescents. Such a ring would have been worn by a wealthy aristocrat, as a (the Rooster a symbol of hope and faith) was often used the royal house of Valois and the Bourbon kings of France.
