This is a wonderful Renaissance silver medalet/badge, dating to the late 16th and early 17th century. It depicts Saint James wearing a pilgrims cloak, standing beneath a canopied border. Such medals would have been purchased at sacred shrines (likely Compostella in Spain) as a proof of a pilgrimage, or as protection from travelers. It has survived in very good antique condition.
