Code: 12909
This is a superb Renaissance silver Belcher chain of 198 links, dating to the late 16th-17th centuries. This chain was recovered during the dredging of a riverbed in Spain, attached to a seal, and subsequently cleaned. The silver seal is dated to the early 17th century, so this chain has been summarily dated. Such long chains were worn as an expression of wealth and status and were used as a form of currency in trade by merchants. It is a very nice example intact and in wearable condition.
