Code: 11059
This is a Tudor silver-gilt hat badge, dating to the 16th century. These type of badges are a characteristic category of Tudor dress used to embellish the caps and hats of high-status individuals and are discussed by Gaimster et al (2002: 169-173). See also SUR-C6DA03, YORYM-589235, SWYOR-C08232 and NMS-AA0079 for further types and discussion.
This example is in excavated condition, sadly missing the 'S' shaped hook so characteristic of this type of object. It does retain a few suspensions loops for use of a chain or hanging pearl drops or to be sewn onto the hat.
