Code: 10868
This is a late 17th or early 18th-century gold memorial ring, inscribed with "Memento J.R." The style of the lettering fits with other known examples from the 1680s-1720s. The 'Memento' (Remember) 'J' James and 'R' Rex (King) 'Remember King James'. This will relate to either King James II or his son James Francis Edward Stuart, as the Jacobite 'King over the water'. Parts of the lettering has worn, but enough to reconstruct the letter 'J' of the typewritten like an 'F' (see the last image for example). This is a rare piece of Jacobite jewellery in good excavated condition.
