Code: 11030
This is an interesting and complete set of Saxon period clothing fasteners, dating to the 9th - 10th century A.D. These were excavated together and are clearly associated, one has a hook and the other an eyelet. Each fastener bears two retaining loops to enable them to be sewn onto clothing or attached to a necklace chain. The also retain the original split pins riveted in place, these would have held jet, coral or amber beads (now missing). A nice original set, seldom found together! Similar Saxon hook fasteners have been recorded HAMP-EAFFEF, KENT-076AE5, BUC-0A7E39 see also Read, B. 2008. Hooked-Clasps and Eyes. Langport: Portcullis Publishing for further discussion of type.
