This is a wonderful ancient Roman intaglio, dating to the 2nd - 3rd century A.D. It is finely cut on a clear rock crystal gemstone, with the portrait of Sol (the Unconquered Sun). Originally this gem would have been set into a gold signet ring, used as a personal signature for sealing letters and transactions. He has survived the millennia in excellent condition, suitable for remounting into a gold signet ring today.
