This is an early Georgian walnut canteen, a box used to store and display silver cutlery and knives. This canteen dates to the early 18th century (see (AB-31320)). It still retains its original lock and key, which is rare and nice to find. Inside, there appear to have been adjustments to accommodate letters and pens, but the crimson-red and silver bullion wire is contemporary Georgian redcoat material. This example is in good antique condition with several repairs and alterations, as one would expect, as fashions changed!
