This is an interesting medieval harness fitting, dating to the 13th - 14th century. It is an articulated fitment, intact with rivets and working hinges. Such a mount would have been attached to the leather harness and used to suspend an armorial (shield-shaped) pendant. These were also used on wooden caskets and boxes, that have may also be the original function of this item. It is a good piece and in very good excavated condition.
