Code: 13040
This is an original chessman seal in bronze, dating to the late 13th - 14th century. The seal is deeply cut in Lombardic script, reading to me as "S;Pigolet.de.Oysert." (Seal of Pigolet of Oysert?) The armorial device is deeply cut with clear tinctures to the bend, allowing for a firm identification in the right heraldic books. It depicts a bend sable between six cross pommee. The name is unusual but known in medieval France and Belgium. A nice historic seal, a metal detector find, needs researching!
