Code: 11408
This is a wonderful seal matrice, dating to the 13th - 14th century. The seal is deeply cut with an image of a Pelican in her Piety. The motif of the pelican piercing its breast to feed its young with its blood became a popular symbol of the sacrifice of Christ during the late medieval and early Renaissance periods. The seal is cut with Lombardic script reading as '+SIOhAn es est Done eIvs' "Joan's done with it!". The seal is a perfect example in excellent condition, of a nice subject.
