Code: 12308
This is a nice medieval bronze seal, dating to the 13th - 14th century. The seal is cut with the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) with the banner. Around the device is cut in Lombardic script with the name of the owner "+S'MATEI LE CATCLM". The back retains a chessman style handle that is pierced for suspension. The Lamb of God design was often used by the Knights Templars, on the agnel d'or or mouton d’or coinage and on wax reliquaries. The seal is an original example, not a later 19th-century cast.
