Renaissance seal matrice of a Fishmonger Henry Colle

Code: 11442

£650.00 Approx $808.46, €759.35

This is a superb Renaissance bronze seal, dating to the 16th century. The seal is nicely cut with a device of a knife/cutter beside a fish 'emblazoned on a shield'. The legend is inscribed in a Blackletter script, reading as " Seel : + : Henri : + : Colle : +" This would translate as "the seal of Henry Colle" The face of the seal has been cleaned in the past, probably at least 100 years ago and has patinated, the back of the seal has not been cleaned and carries heavy green patination from burial. This is an excellent example and all original. The personal seal of a fishmonger called Henri Colle. Worthy of further research!
