Georgian silver & steel nutmeg grater by Phipps, Robinson & Phipps

This is a rather smart and tactile Georgian silver nutmeg grater, made in London by Phipps, Robinson & Phipps in 1813. It is fully hallmarked and retains the original steel grater. The box opens with two hidden hinged lids, one for the grater and the other to empty the contents. Thomas Phipps, Edward Robinson & James Phipps, The partnerships of Phipps & Robinson, were considered the finest box makers in London at this date, and this box is a wonderful example of their work. It is in good antique condition, although it has a tiny dent to the underside hinge join - hardly noticeable in the photos or the hand!
