This is a fabulous matched silver bodkin and needle case/etui dating to the 18th century. Bodkins were used to sew ribbon into elaborate hairstyles. Bodkins were thicker and blunter than needles and were kept in their own cases which resembled long needle cases such as this one. There are no silver marks to be found on this bodkin case as is quite often the case but it has been tested and it is silver. Both the bodkin and case bear finely decorated engraved designs. A nice set in very good condition.
