I am pleased to offer this wonderful Georgian silver wine decanter label, made by Digby Scott and Benjamin Smith II. Their partnership between 1802 and 1807 is recognised as producing some of the finest silverwork of the time. Scott and Smith ran workshops in Greenwich, London, and were the primary suppliers of silver masterpieces to Rundell, Bridge and Rundell. They were officially ‘Jewellers, Gold and Silversmiths to the Crown’ between 1798 and 1843 and the most prestigious jewellers in London, supplying the official plate requested by the Lord Chamberlain’s Office.
This example is finely raised with a Bacchus Mask, Vine leaves, grapevines and grape decoration on the front. The back bears a clear date letter and maker's mark of this much sought-after silversmith partnership, a fine piece to drape from a bottle of Madeira at Christmas!
