This is a wonderful Iron Age Celtic electrum gold finger ring, dating to the 5th century B.C. The ring is formed as a torque, with button terminals. The ring was made to spiral around the finger, the coil would enable the ring to be resized to fit. This is a very simple form of a finger ring, obviously inspired by the larger neck torques and bracelets of the period. Electrum is a naturally occurring amalgam of gold and silver, used in coinage and jewelry from the 7th century B.C. This ring would have originally been worn by a man, however, the size could be made smaller by coiling the band to fit. The ring has survived in excellent condition, with a nice tone and patina.
