This is a wonderful ancient Roman silver intaglio ring, dating to the 2nd century A.D. The ring is set with an ancient Roman Nicolo gemstone intaglio, cut with a portrait of a lady. The hairstyle fits with the latter half of the 1st century A.D., around the time of Empress Domitia and Plotina. The gem is an excellent example of a good excavated condition (without any cracks or chips). Such a gem would have been used to seal and authenticate letters and transactions. It is a good and historical piece of wearable ancient Roman jewelry.
