This is an ancient Roman bronze intaglio ring, dating to the 3rd century A.D. The ring is set with the original carnelian intaglio, depicting a pair of clasped hands between ears of wheat (the gemmarius forgot to engrave the stalks on this example). The bronze ring is in good excavated condition, being part of a cache of rings from a jeweler (discovered in Europe). A similar jewelers hoard was discovered in Senttisham in Norfolk. The gems appear to be related and the working stock of a jeweler. This ring is in excellent condition and has a nice olive patina. A nice ring for the collector.
