This is an ancient Roman finger ring, dating to the 2nd - 3rd century A.D. It is of a Heing type VIII, with D-shaped hoop, broad carinated shoulders and raised solid circular bezel. It is engraved with a design, used to seal and authenticate letters. The ring is made of bronze, heavily tinned. A nice and wearable example from the silts from the river Ouse in York.
