This is a superb medieval silver-gilt amulet, dating to the 15th century. It is set with the original fossilized coral gemstone, within a cusped setting. The back of the pendant is decorated with a crucifix, between a flail and whip (referring to flagellation). Such amulets were worn for protection and as a devotional object. This example has survived in excellent excavated condition, intact and wearable.
