This is a nice medieval bronze signet ring, dating to the 13th - 14th century. The ring is cut with a device of two birds, feeding on a chalice-shaped cup. The design is reminiscent of a Roman intaglio, depicting two eagles feeding off a Greek krater. Likely the original inspiration for the medieval craftsman or scholar, who commissioned this ring to be used as a personal seal. Today it has survived in good excavated condition. Intact and with a nice patina. A detector find from Kent.
