This is a wonderful Renaissance silver-gilt signet ring, dating to the 15th - 16th century A.D. It is a large ring, designed for active daily wear. This example is engraved with a hunting horn, a symbol of Saint Hubert (patron saint of hunters). The size of the ring would suggest this example was originally worn by a man. This ring would have been used to seal and authenticate letters and documents, either to display the wearer's occupation as a royal huntsman or as a badge of office. The ring is intact and in excellent excavated condition, suitable to be worn and used again today.
