This is a delightful medieval gold finger ring, dating to the 13th century. The ring is set with a natural Almandine Garnet gemstone, in a boxed (heart shaped) bezel. The band is plain and simple, designed to draw attention to the gemstone, of excellent quality. Such a ring would have been worn by a Lady of substance (likely noble birth), it may have once been gifted by an amorous Knight or Lord (as was the custom of chivalry). The wearing of gold and silver rings was regulated by statutes and sumptuary laws in England, therefore one had to be entitled to the jewels one wore as rank and birth dictated. This is an excellent example of one such jeweled finger ring, an ideal piece to be worn again with care!
