This is a wonderful Tudor period silver hat jewel/pendant, dating to the late 15th - 16th century A.D. It is formed as a flower set with a natural pearl, mounted within a cusped setting. The back of the pendant has a hinge mechanism, presumably for attachment or for a secondary hanging pearl. Such pendants were fashionable fixed to elaborate headdresses or suspended from a necklace. It is a nice jewel, in good excavated condition.
