This finely painted portrait miniature of an unknown man, wearing the fashionable attire of a gentleman of the 1630's. He wears a fine reticella dropped lace collar (often found on portraits of Charles Ist) showing the sitter to have moved in courtly circles. The portrait is set within a silver frame, unglazed. The painting is finely executed in oils on orichalcum or gilt metal. The surface of the portrait has some paint loss in places, this has been left untouched. The work is unsigned, so, unfortunately, the artist and sitter are unknown to me. It is an original of the period and not a 19th-century copy. A nice piece for further research.
