This is a simple ancient Viking silver finger ring, dating to the 11th century A.D. The ring formed from a rod of silver, the bezel hammered to form a Lozengiform shape, raised at the edges. Both terminals, drawn and knotted to form a finger ring. This type of ring is usually found with a decorated lozengiform bezel, punched with triangles or zig-zags. This undecorated example being quite unusual, possibly indicating a Christianized Viking! Today this ancient ring has survived in good excavated condition, intact and wearable with care.
