This is a wonderful hardstone cameo ring of Mithras, dating to the 18th - early 19th century. The cameo is sculpted from a three-banded agate, with the upper brown layer utilized for the hair, white layer for the flesh tones and a deep brown for the background. The artist managed to absorb the fine upper layer form subtle 'rosy' cheeks. The cameo is a nice piece, set into a gold finger ring. Such a gem would have likely been purchased on a Grand Tour, worn as a symbol of one's education.
