This is a wonderful medieval silver-gilt ring brooch, dating to the 13th - 14th century A.D. It is formed from a twisted rod of square silver wire which is decorated with a row of small circular pellets within each twist. (Similar examples recorded and discussed SF-2F9D15 & SF-F30859) There is a constriction around which the pin is attached via an open loop. Such small brooches would have been used to secure fine linen and wimples (veils), this example has survived intact and in excellent condition.
