This is a nice medieval silver-gilt falconry button, dating to the 14th - 15th century. The button is hemispherical in shape, with the face engraved with a hawk on it's prey. Similar buttons are dated to the late 14th century found set with green enamel. Such a button would have been worn on the rich brocaded fabric of a jupon or doublet, likely by a fashionable young falconer. Today it has survived intact, though the securing loop is squashed and the enamel missing. A rare object, seldom offered!
