This is a nice medieval gold finger ring, dating to the 13th - 15th century A.D. The ring is set with a dark brown stone, tested by a gemmologist as being a Lepidotes tooth, thus a 'Toadstone'. Such gems were set into rings worn for their magical and protective qualities. Toadstones were considered to be antidotes for poison and were also used in the treatment of epilepsy. The gem on this example is well set with no movement. The band has an old crack and a repair to the underside of the bezel. A rare type of magical ring, in good wearable condition.
