Ancient Roman Iron & Jasper Intaglio Ring of Jupiter

SOLD

Code: 10381

This is an incredible ancient Roman iron intaglio ring, dating to the 1st century B.C. to the 1st century A.D. It is set with its original red jasper gemstone, incised with an image of a regally enthroned Zeus (Jupiter) King of the gods.

This ancient ring is a real statement piece, for the true patriot of Rome. It is made from iron, the choice metal 'par excellence' for rings. Even the Senators wore iron rings, shunning gold of the 'Barbarians'! Iron is the metal of Mars (god of War), durable, strong and can withstand combat. Only centurions or officers in the legions, were permitted to wear rings (acting as a badge of rank and office).

This ring dates to the Augustan period, possibly a little earlier to the time of Caesar. It is in perfect condition for an ancient iron example, with no cracks or chips or any restoration. Very, Very rare in this grade, seldom offered outside of major collections and museums!
