This is a magnificent Renaissance silver jewelled finger ring, dating to c. 1580 - 1620 A.D. The ring consists of an ornate and deeply sculpted body (popular from the mid 16th century) set with a single root emerald. Either side in a cruciform cluster is set four diamonds of early cuts. The lower band of the ring has a cut, also signs of several resizing in the past. A testament to its long life. The ring is in good antique condition, the emerald has a tiny chip to one corner, hardly noticeable and perfectly acceptable for a 400+-year-old jewel! A nice piece of wearable history from the age of Pirates and the Spanish Armada!
