This is an ancient Roman carnelian intaglio, dating to the 2nd - 3rd century A.D. It is nicely cut with a depiction of the god Apollo playing the lyre. It is a nice piece, originally mounted into a gold or silver signet ring, worn to gain the patronage of this god of music and art.
