This is a nice medieval finger ring, dating to the 13th - 14th century A.D. This example closely imitates the gold and sapphire rings of the period, worn by nobility and ecclesiastic community. It is decorated with a simple raised bezel set with a blue glass paste (imitation of a sapphire). It retains gold gilding to the surfaces, originally fully gilded. The ring has survived in good excavated condition, though appears to have a repair to the bezel which is hardly noticeable.
