This is a rather charming medieval silver heart-shaped brooch, dating to the 14th - 15th century A.D. Silimar heart shaped brooches have been found in gold (LEIC-070179), silver (LANCUM-09246E) and bronze (IOW-58FEA4). Believed to have been given as amatory tokens or betrothal gifts, most varying in decoration, with the pins being fixed horizontally or vertically. This example is undecorated, the simplicity of design is enough. It has a simple pin constriction, with a buckle-type pin fixed with a rolled over join. It is a nice example in excavated condition.
